# Store files online with File Storage

> Upload and organise documents in File Storage, webmail's own file area, and learn why large uploads can also fill your mailbox.

File Storage is a separate area in webmail for uploading and organising documents, but it shares the same storage quota as your mailbox.

## Upload and organise files

1. Click the **File Storage** icon in the top toolbar.

2. Click **Upload** and choose the file from your computer.
3. Use **My Files** and **All Files** in the left panel to switch views.

4. Open the folder menu to use **New Folder**, **Move Folder**, **Rename Folder** or **Delete Folder**.
5. Click the **Sorting** icon next to **Select** to order the list by **File Name**, **Size**, **Date Uploaded** or **Public**.

## Watch your quota

File Storage counts toward the same space as your mailbox, so uploading large files here can fill your mailbox just as a full **Inbox** can.

1. Check the used space shown at the bottom left of **File Storage**, or click the **Reports** icon, then **Disk Usage**, to see **File Storage Usage** next to **Mailbox Usage** and **Team Workspace Usage** within one total, as covered in [See what is using your mailbox space](/storage-usage-reports/).

File Storage suits documents you want open alongside your email, for example files your team references in [Tasks and Notes](/tasks-notes/) or discusses in [webmail chat](/webmail-chat/). It is not a substitute for a full backup of your files.

## Common issues

### Does File Storage count against my mailbox quota?

Yes. File Storage shares the same quota as your mailbox. Check File Storage Usage inside Disk Usage in Reports, covered in See what is using your mailbox space (/storage-usage-reports/), and see Mailbox full: free up space (/mailbox-full/) if you run out.

### Why can't I see a file I uploaded?

Check that you are in My Files and use Search at the top right, or sort the list with the Sorting icon to bring it to the top.

### Should I use File Storage as a backup?

No. Use it for files you want handy inside webmail, not as your only backup, since it shares space with your mail.
