# Forgot your Google Workspace password? How to get back in

You can reset your own Google Workspace password only if your company admin has turned on password recovery and your account has a recovery phone or email; otherwise your admin has to reset it for you.

## Try self-service reset first

1. Go to [mail.google.com](https://mail.google.com), enter your work email address and click **Next**.
2. Click **Forgot password?**
3. Follow the prompts to verify with your recovery phone number or recovery email (if you use 2-Step Verification, only the recovery email works).
4. Enter a new password when prompted.

If Google tells you to contact your administrator instead, self-service reset is not available: either your admin has not turned it on, or no recovery phone or email is set. Your admin can reset it using [How to reset a user's password](/workspace-reset-user-password/).

## Find out who your admin is

Ask whoever set up your company's Google Workspace, such as your office manager, HR, or IT contact. If nobody knows, contact Office Niaga support and we can look up the account.

## If the only admin is gone or locked out

If your company's only admin has left or lost access, staff cannot reset passwords until admin access is restored. Contact Office Niaga support with your domain name and we'll help you regain access.

## Once you're back in

Add a recovery phone and recovery email under **Google Account > Security & sign-in** > **How you sign in to Google** (**Recovery phone**, **Recovery email**). Then turn on [2-Step Verification](/workspace-2-step-verification/) so a lost password does not lock you out again. With 2-Step Verification on, Google only accepts a recovery email for self-service reset, so keep one set even if you also have a recovery phone.

## Common issues

### Why can't I reset my Google Workspace password myself?

Self-service reset only works if your admin has turned on password recovery for staff and your account already has a recovery phone or email. If either is missing, Google tells you to contact your administrator, who can reset it for you (/workspace-reset-user-password/).

### How do I find out who my Google Workspace admin is?

Ask whoever set up your company's Google Workspace, usually your manager, HR, or IT contact. If nobody can tell you, contact Office Niaga support and we can check the account on file.
